As students at Texas State University, we realized there was a void created by a lack of representative, supportive groups for the LGBTQA community in San Marcos. As proud members and allies of the community, we felt that LGBTQA and queer people in San Marcos deserved a supportive atmosphere in which to meet new friends, share ideas, and collaborate on projects in an open forum. So, we decided to create HangOUT.
The group is modeled on the group of the same name created by our peers at the University of Texas at Austin--although theirs is an officially registered group at UT and our group is not affiliated with Texas State University. It is a group that exists to provide a time and venue for LGBTQA people and their allies to gather, socialize, and collaborate in a manner that is casual, but empowering. As homage to their contribution to the idea for the group, we invite Hang Out-UT students and their allies to join us for HangOUT time.
We meet at least once a week a coffee shop or restaurant to HangOUT and just have fun. We are open to other events, as well: movie nights, club nights, etc. We meet at times most convenient to all members.
